An American military working dog gets root canal treatment due to an infected tooth. The canine developed the infection due to two broken teeth. The issue was noticed by one of the Army Veterinary Corps Officers and reported.
It was decided that the canine needed a tooth-saving root canal treatment. Therefore, the US Navy Captain, Dr. Melissa Ruff of the 1st Dental Battalion, stepped in to deal with the problem. She was assisted by a specialist in the dental field of root canal treatments, also known as an Endodontist. Dr. Ruff spoke of her experience and jubilation to be able to save the dog’s teeth. “During my 20 years of service, I have only worked on human Sailors and Marines… this was a very special and fun experience, and I was extremely honored to treat a military K9.”
The treatment was considered essential for the working dog. This is due to the importance of maintaining their biting strength, as well as preserving their overall health. The dog is said to be ‘doing great’ after its tooth-saving treatment.
