CEREC – Same Day Dental Restorations

How CEREC same-day dental restorations provide a faster and more comfortable patient experience

The procedure is quick, stress-free, and highly effective. To begin, we prepare your tooth by removing any damaged decayed tooth, similar to the start of any standard dental treatment. Next, we capture a detailed 3D digital scan of your mouth using a high-tech high definition camera, completely bypassing those uncomfortable, messy putty mould impressions.

Using these images, our sophisticated CEREC software builds a precise 3D blueprint of your tooth. After we’ve perfected the design of your restoration, the information is sent to our in-house 3D milling machine. This technology carves your bespoke inlay/onlay/overlay/crown restoration from a solid composite/ceramic/zirconium block, colour-matched to blend with your natural tooth.

To finish, we securely bond the custom CEREC restoration in place, allowing you to leave with a fully restored, confident smile. Ready to learn more? Book your same day CEREC appointment today.

What to expect during your CEREC restoration appointment

Step 1: Preparation & numbing: We will numb the area and prepare your tooth by removing any decay or old filling material, shaping it so the new restoration fits perfectly.

Step 2: The digital “impression”: No gooey putty here! We will use a small, handheld camera (an intra-oral scanner) to take a 3D digital scan of your mouth.

Step 3: On-screen design: You can watch as we use specialised software to design your custom CEREC restoration right in front of you, ensuring it matches the shape and bite of your surrounding teeth. When we are totally happy with this design, we send the data to an onsite 3D milling machine.

Step 4: The “intermission”: While the milling machine carves your CEREC restoration from a composite/ceramic/zirconium block (about 10-30 minutes), you can wait in the waiting room. Feel free to bring a book or catch up on some emails.

Step 5: Characterisation & polishing: We will check the fit of the CEREC and may “glaze” it to match the exact shade and shine of your natural teeth.

Step 6: Final bonding: Once the fit is perfect, the CEREC restoration is permanently bonded to your tooth. You’ll walk out with your final restoration, no temporary filling/crown needed, and you will be ready to show off your new smile!
