Metal Braces

Why have metal braces?

Braces are the most effective method for straightening teeth. They can correct a wide range of dental problems, including overcrowding, spacing issues, and bite problems. Metal braces are usually the most affordable option for orthodontic treatment. They are durable and can withstand the pressure of everyday use.

Braces work by applying a constant, gentle force to the teeth, causing them to move into the desired position over time. The wire is gradually tightened during regular appointments with our orthodontist, which increases the pressure on the teeth, causing them to move.

Types of metal braces at Pearl Dental Clinic

Traditional metal braces

These are the most common type of metal braces. They consist of metal brackets and wires, and are highly visible. They are reliable and effective, and often more cost-effective.

Self-ligating braces

Self-ligating braces are similar to traditional braces but have a unique design that eliminates the need for elastic bands to hold the wire in place. This can result in faster treatment times and fewer appointments.

Lingual braces

Lingual braces are similar to traditional braces but are attached to the back of the teeth, making them virtually invisible from the front. They can be more difficult to clean and maintain than other types of braces and are more likely to cause lisping when speaking. Lingual braces usually cost twice as much as traditional metal braces as they are more complicated to install.

What does the treatment involve?

Getting braces typically involves several steps, including an initial consultation with our orthodontist. We ask you about your ideal results, and take X-rays and impressions of your teeth so your custom brackets can be made.

The next stage is the placement of the brackets and wires. Our orthodontist will adjust the wire during regular once a month appointments to gradually move your teeth into the desired position.
