UK dental students volunteering for relief work in Northern India have been making final preparations for their trip. The students have spent time sorting through supplies and getting donations ready. Their mission aims to help around five hundred people in the Rishikesh and Himalayan Region.
Clinical Lecturer and one of the volunteer leaders, Dr. Upen Patel spoke about the initiative. “Maintaining good oral care is essential for everyone and it is unacceptable that there are people in the world who do not have access to the basic means of keeping their mouth healthy by reducing the risk of dental decay and gum disease.”
Additionally, there will be health, diabetes, and asthma checks and screenings offered. Also, as part of the programme, the dental students will give demonstrations on how to maintain good dental health and hygiene.
Due to the severe poverty in this area of the world, many people are unable to afford basic dental care or simply do not have access to services. This initiative hopes to bridge the gap.
