Serial offender, Jason Edworthy, has been fined again for providing illegal tooth whitening, after being charged and found guilty of the same offence back in 2014. Originally from Royal Wootton Bassett, Edworthy now lives in Buckinghamshire and has been continuing to practice, despite his previous conviction and not being registered with the General Dental Council.
Earlier on this year the GDC received a tip off from a patient who had been to have teeth whitening by Edworthy, which then prompting further investigation. The patient had clearly stated that she had sensitive teeth, however the rogue practitioner failed to take this into account and carried out several procedures. As a result, the patient suffered severe burns to her gums. An undercover operation by the BBC ensued and the crew from the Inside Out West series were able to book appointments with the illegal practitioner through the company LA Teeth Whitening, where he rented a room.
Swindon Magistrate’s Court heard the evidence against Mr Edworthy and gave him the title of ‘serial re-offender.’ He was found guilty and fined two thousand pounds. He was ordered to pay a one-hundred-and-twenty-pound victim surcharge and costs of over a thousand pounds to the GDC.
