Some patients are torn between composite veneers vs composite bonding and do not know which cosmetic option to choose. Composite veneers and composite bonding are both dental procedures that involve the use of a tooth-colored composite resin material, but they are used for different purposes and are applied in different ways and amounts.
Composite veneers are thin shells of composite resin that are bonded to whole of the front surface of the tooth to improve its appearance. They are used to change the color, shape, and size of the tooth, and can be used to repair chips, cracks, and gaps in the teeth. Composite veneers are similar looking to porcelain veneers, but are less expensive and do not require tooth reduction.
Composite bonding, also known as tooth bonding, is a procedure in which composite resin is applied to part of the tooth to repair damage, change the color, shape, or size of the tooth, or to fill gaps between the teeth. In this procedure, the dentist will apply the composite resin to the tooth, shape it and then harden it using a special light. The composite resin is then polished to match the sheen of the rest of the tooth.
So when you are thinking of composite veneers vs composite bonding treatment, remember that both procedures can improve the appearance of your teeth and can last several years with proper care. But composite veneers are generally considered to provide patients with a bigger cosmetic change than composite bonding due to the fact that it covers more of the tooth surface and is also slightly more expensive.
