Protecting Teeth

Protecting against dental decay and gum disease

Regular dental check-ups are vital for keeping your teeth and gums healthy for life. Brushing twice a day and flossing regularly, along with seeing a hygienist, helps prevent gum disease. Using a high-fluoride toothpaste strengthens your teeth and fights decay. To further reduce your risk, limit sugary snacks to mealtimes and avoid snacking between meals.

Protecting against dental trauma

Dental trauma can result in a partially dislodged or a knocked out tooth. This is usually the result of an accident or sporting mishap. Wearing a mouth guard could reduce the likelihood of dental trauma, and protect your teeth from unnecessary damage.

Protecting Teeth

Protecting teeth from tooth wear

Some people clench or grind their teeth during the day or at night, causing tooth wear. A night guard can help protect your teeth against the effects of bruxism, improving the appearance and function. Acidic foods and drinks can also wear down tooth enamel. If you must have them, use a straw and stick to mealtimes to minimise the damage.

Protecting teeth through better oral hygiene

We advise our patients to carry out a series of simple steps to keep their teeth in a great condition:

  • Brushing thoroughly twice every day, while ensuring flossing takes place at least once daily.
  • Consuming a balanced diet that is rich in nutrients, as well as limiting intake of sugary snacks to meal times only.
  • Using dental products that contain fluoride to strengthen teeth.
  • Rinsing the mouth with a fluoride mouthwash daily to provide extra protection against tooth decay.
