Teeth can sometimes lose bone and gum support as a result of gum disease. This can lead to progressive loosening of the teeth. Eventually, this will result in tooth loss if the gum disease is not treated.
At Pearl Dental Clinic, we take gum disease very seriously and every patient undergoing a full examination is provided with a gum assessment to determine if any active gum disease exists.
If active gum disease exists, we usually recommend sessions of deep cleaning (advanced gum treatment). This treatment can take place with either our hygienist, general dentists, or our registered specialist Periodontist. Deep cleaning will remove bacteria from the tooth and root surface, and is carried out under Local Anaesthetic where necessary.
We also would assess your daily cleaning methods and recommend any changes that would be necessary in order to make your hygiene routine more effective in removing plaque.
Sometimes other factors such as genetics, smoking or diabetes may also be contributing to the worsening gum condition and we would inform you if you need to make any lifestyle changes.
Once the course of deep gum treatment is completed, you will usually be asked to come back for three monthly hygiene maintenance appointments to keep the gum disease inactive.
If you wish you can join our Practice membership plan and enjoy the many benefits of the membership plans. These includes regular checkups, hygiene appointments and 10% discount off the cost of your dental treatment.
