Are all dentures repairable?

Dentures can often be repaired. This will depend on the extent of the damage. Firstly one of our dentists will assess your broken denture. Usually, if a denture is cracked into two or three pieces, it can be repaired. However, if a denture has broken into many pieces, it may not be possible. Immediate dentures can be made on the same day for patients whose dentures are irreparable.

Sometimes, where a denture is comfortable but becoming loose, you may decide to keep the denture rather than replace it. Retention of the denture can be improved with a denture reline procedure. This usually takes less than 2 hours.

What does a denture repair involve?

In most cases, if the denture can be repaired, the dentist will ask the lab technician to repair it on-site on the same day. The denture will be cleaned and then a special resin will be poured into the denture to join the broken parts back together. This process usually takes around 1 hour. Stained dentures can also be cleaned with specialised cleaning materials.

Replacement or extra teeth can be added to a denture where the denture has chipped, broken, or other natural teeth have been lost. However, if dentures have been repaired a number of times previously then patients may be advised to have a new denture made.
