Dental implants have many benefits over dentures as teeth replacements, it has been suggested.
Not only can the procedure be permanent, it also promotes healthy bone growth, while providing the patient with a natural look and feel, asserted dentists Scott LeSueur and Charles Dodaro.
They noted dentures have a number of drawbacks – such as having to be regularly cleaned and the fact they can move around in the jaw causing discomfort and embarrassment.
Both oral health professionals explained dental implants consist of titanium screws placed directly in the jaw bone. Once healed, permanent replacements are put in.
"Implants … are set into the bone and eventually bond with it," said the dentists.
"Because of this bonding, bone growth is stimulated just as it would be with natural roots."
In conclusion, they suggested people visit an oral health professional for a consultation to see if dental implants are suitable for them.
Meanwhile, Dr P Tehranian from a practice in Preston recently spoke about how dentures can lead to difficulty eating or talking.
