An unregistered man who practised cosmetic dentistry has been prosecuted.
Liam Sherry from Kent pleaded guilty to fitting, inserting and fixing dentures, even though he was not registered with the General Dental Council (GDC).
He has been ordered to pay £1,000 in costs, after he carried out the cosmetic dentistry at LPS Prosthetics in Maidstone.
The GDC has prosecuted eight people so far this year and Ian Todd, interim chief executive and registrar, said he and his organisation are determined to stop people who work illegally.
“Those who practise without the appropriate registration should be aware that we will tackle this issue robustly and will continue to prosecute in every appropriate case,” he added.
Mr Sherry fitted dentures for his patients, but the British Dental Health Foundation suggests that dental implants are a good alternative. These are false teeth supported on a titanium rod that has been placed in the jawbone.
