A new foundation aimed at providing free dental care for ex-service men and women has launched this week in the UK. The Smile4Heroes campaign aims to sign up dentists who are prepared to work with injured personnel for free, rebuilding broken smiles and boosting their self-esteem in the process.

At the moment, there are twenty dentists involved with the foundation, but the organisers are hoping to bring many more in from across the country, to provide free treatment for those injured while serving in the armed forces. The website went live a few days ago, and the campaign can be followed on social networking sites, such as Twitter and Facebook.

Founder of Smile4Heroes, Daniel Pinder, notes on the site that ‘The gift of a smile brings with it an amazing feeling’ and he explains that the aim of the foundation is to ‘offer our injured service personnel the opportunity of having an amazing smile and to help build the confidence of these people in a time when many are rebuilding their lives.’

Mr Pinder went on to say that the intention was to build on the work done by the Defence Dental Services team, and not to replace it, he said they wanted to ‘provide something extra to these people and at no time do I want anyone to think that I don’t feel these people are being looked after, the DDS team provide an amazing service.’
