A pair of female entrepreneurs from Edinburgh have developed the world’s first baby bib with a built-in ‘teether’ for babies to chew on while their teeth are coming through; the product is set for launch in London next month. Known as the ‘Neckerchew’, the bib was designed by business development manager Amy Livingstone and tourism innovation manager Julie Wilson while the pair were on maternity leave together.

Julie said that the two women noticed when they were with friends and their children they ‘all seemed to spend half the time picking up and re-sanitising dropped teethers.’ She went on to say that ‘it was the simplicity in our initial idea that was so appealing – why not create a teething product that is attached to the baby?’

Amy and Julie set up Cheeky Chompers in May to develop the idea and it will be launched at London’s Excel exhibition centre as part of The Baby Show later this year.

Amy said ‘It has taken a lot of hard work and late nights to get to this stage, but we are thrilled to be launching Neckerchew and I cannot wait to see where Cheeky Chompers will take us in the coming months.’ Julie added that the bibs are made in Glasgow by Tots Bots – a cloth nappy manufacturer, saying; ‘We were convinced we wanted to make them in Scotland and we’re really pleased with Tots Bots.’
