Patients could avoid gum disease and having to have their teeth pulled out via emergency dentistry by getting regular check-ups and appointments with a hygienist.
Dr Bianca Flora, an oral health specialist in the US, told the CT Post that gingivitis and periodontitis can be caught and treated quickly, but only if dentists see it in time.
If not, it may result in the patient losing their teeth or having to have extensive cosmetic dentistry treatment.
She explained that people can also prevent gum problems by brushing thoroughly but not too vigorously using a soft brush, something which owning an electric toothbrush may be able to help with.
Earlier this month, US Insurance Online reported that the American Dental Hygienists’ Association had recommended regular oral health examinations for preventing conditions such as diabetes, osteoporosis and eating disorders.
This is because bacteria can get into the bloodstream if it s not removed from between the teeth.
