Dr Steven Morgano, chief academic officer of Boston University’s Institute for Dental Research and Education, described how more often than not a patient will only go to a professional when they have a problem rather than to ward off potential issues.

Professor Antonio Carrassi, dean of the dental school of the University of Milan, commented: “It is important to remember that oral health means more than good teeth. It is integral to overall general health and essential for the wellbeing of individuals.”
