Portsmouth Youth Academy gets behind university dental initiative in a bid to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining oral health. The Portsmouth Youth Academy coupled up with Portsmouth University to demonstrate effective dental care to fans young and old. However, with dental decay at an all-time high in children, this is likely to be the main target group. Also, reaching out to parents is a key element to making this a success.
Ethan Robb, the 17-year-old academy center-half spoke to Portsmouth.co.uk. “I think this is a really good initiative. The dentist gave us some good advice to ensure a healthy mouth and teeth. It’s important as any kind of infection can reduce physical performance and toothache can cause pain which could make it difficult to concentrate during a match.” Another teammate, Harrison Brook (16), spoke of how dental health is ‘just as important’ as overall physical health.
University lecturers praised the young players for their participation in the initiative. Also, their influence in the wider local community is invaluable in raising awareness. The additional knock-on effect of this is the youth players will be great shape for the start of the new season.
