nanofill composite bonding

What’s composite bonding?

It’s where we add a tooth-coloured resin material to your teeth to improve how they look. People usually have it done to:

  • Fix a chipped tooth
  • Close a small gap between teeth
  • Smooth or reshape teeth edges

Composite bonding has become very popular these days as its faster, cheaper and non-damaging to teeth compared to ceramic veneers.

So why use nano-filled material?

Nanofill just describes the material being used. The particles inside it are extremely small, which means:

  • It polishes really nicely
  • It has a natural shine
  • It blends better with your teeth

That’s it. Nothing more complicated than that. This type of composite bonding usually lasts around 5 years.

Is it actually different to normal bonding?

Yes – but not in a hugely dramatic way. Standard composite already looks good. A nano-filled resin just gives that slightly more natural, glossy finish – especially on the front teeth. Most people won’t care what material is used, they just care that it looks right.

When would you use it?

Usually for anything visible when you smile:

  • Front teeth
  • Small cosmetic tweaks
  • Smile improvements with smile makeovers

If you’re after something subtle and natural, this is typically what’s used.

The part people don’t realise

The composite material type helps, however the result depends far more on the specialist carrying out the treatment. Here at Pearl dental clinic to get the best results, only our experienced specialist prosthodontists who are dental artists carry out these type of delicate composite bonding. You can see examples of their work in our composite bonding before and after gallery.

The bottom line

Using nanofilled resins for composite bonding isn’t some completely different treatment. It’s just a more polished, more natural-looking version of the standard composite bonding. If composite bonding is done well, you shouldn’t be able to tell anything’s been added at all – It should be very natural looking.
