A Yorkshire man has won £30,000 in damages from his former dentist after dealing with poor dental work for over a decade. Kevin Bowes, 53, lost several teeth and underwent a number of dental procedures that were deemed ‘avoidable’ at the practice of Dr Nicholas Crees in Guisborough, North Yorkshire.

Kevin told mailonline that he was ‘devastated’ by the state his teeth were left in and ‘felt completely let down’ by a dentist he trusted to take care of his dental health. Kevin told the publication ‘He allowed my teeth to deteriorate so badly over the decade I visited him and all the time with a smile and a friendly demeanour which made you feel you were in good hands. How wrong I was.’

Kevin had been a patient at the same surgery for over ten years when he happened to visit another dentist in January 2013 for a second opinion; the diagnosis shocked and devastated the semi-retired teacher. He said ‘The other dentist told me that I had decay in a number of teeth and would need lots of treatment to repair them.’ Speaking about the ordeal, he added ‘It’s really knocked my confidence and changed my life forever.’

Despite the out of court settlement, Dr Crees has not admitted liability and has made no comment about the case.
