One Tesco shopper was left with a rather sour taste in his mouth after purchasing a Tesco sausage and finding a human tooth in it, complete with filling! Tony Hinds, 27, was initially offered a £15 voucher as compensation for the unfortunate discovery, after Tesco bosses insisted that it was not a tooth, just a piece of bone. After protesting further, Mr Hinds was then awarded an extra £10 for his troubles.
The tooth was found back in August after Mr Hinds bought a pack of Tesco’s Finest pork and chive sausages to make some sausage roles for his upcoming birthday party; his fiancée removed the packaging and was horrified to discover the large molar stuck in the side of the sausage. Mr Hinds said ‘She thought it might be a bit of hard skin or gristle. It’s only when she picked it up she realised what it was.’
The couple, from Kent, returned to the store the next day and filled out an incident report; the tooth was then sent away for analysis. An apology was initially sent in September, along with the £15 voucher, which was later increased to £25. A spokesman for the company said ‘We are sorry for any upset. However, after a thorough investigation, we are confident the tooth was not inside the product when it arrived at the store.’
However, Mr Hinds was under the impression that extra payment was going to be provided, complaining that ‘It’s not about the compensation. I want some reasonable acknowledgement of what it was. I’m not a greedy person but at the end of the day a £25 giftcard for a human tooth is not acceptable.’
