Her character eventually becomes so poor and desperate that she is forced to sell her teeth, and although Ann Hathaway didn’t have to go that far to play Fantine in the hotly anticipated musical drama Les Miserables, she admitted that she would have considered it to secure the role.
Ann spoke to The Metro about the experience of playing the famous character and said that as well as losing her hair and a lot of weight in preparation for filming, she would have been prepared to also lose her teeth if that had not been enough. ‘It’s just the sort of job you feel you should give your pay cheque back at the end of the week, it was such a dream and I can’t believe I’m the girl that got to play Fantine.’ She said.
At the London premiere last night, the thirty-year-old added that she would have sacrificed a lot to play Fantine, saying ‘I didn’t have to pull out my teeth, no one asked, but yes I would do anything.’
Although film producers demand a lot of their thespians, it’s highly unlikely that they would have expected Ann to have gone that far – and even without that much dedication, the actress is tipped to win an Oscar Nod at the Academy Awards in February.
‘Les Miserables’ is scheduled for general release in the UK on January 11th 2013; it also stars Hugh Jackman as Valjean and Russell Crowe as Javert.
