Dr Phil Stemmer of the Teeth for Life centre in the West End of London said there have been advances in emergency and cosmetic dentistry in recent years that mean people are now able to keep their teeth their whole lives. 
He commented: “People are keeping their teeth longer. We now know how to save teeth. There is no reason ever for you to lose a tooth.”
Dr Stemmer noted treatments like dental implants, teeth whitening and dental veneers can help a person keep a bright smile forever.
According to NHS dental statistics for England for the third quarter of 2009, 54.2 per cent of the population (27.9 million) saw an NHS dentist in the 24-month period ending September 30th 2009 – a 0.4 percentage point increase compared to the two-year period ending June 30th 2009.
