Two fashion designers have created a bizarre pair of shoes using over a thousand human teeth; Mariana Fantich and Dominic Young have replaced the rubber soles of two size fifteen Savile Row shoes with real human teeth. The design has attracted both positive and negative attention from fans and fashionistas, and even the gold teeth included in the sole can’t sell the idea of walking on teeth to some people; one poster on Design Boom commented ‘Aesthetically it is really interesting. But the simple fact of thinking that I have teeth under my feet make me want to throw up! Even if these are fakes!’

The British designers, who work under the name Fantich and Young, used the Barker, low-heeled, black leather shoes as a basis for the design, and describe them as ‘predators with no predators’ that are ‘at the top of their food chain.’ Although they are eye-catching and expensive, the shoes – entitled The Apex Predators – are not for sale and are purely decorative.

Since creating the footwear in 2010, Fantich and Young have also produced a Savile Row suit made out of human hair, glass eyes, and dentures. They have been working together since 2008 to build their art portfolio and describe their work as something that addresses the ‘parallels between social evolution and evolution in the natural world.’
