Older dentists could be forced to retire under a new EU ruling.
The European Union (EU) is considering introducing an age limit for practicing dentists. 
Cosmetic Dentistry Guide reported a European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruling over the case of 68-year-old dentist Domnica Peterson from Germany could prove a landmark decision in the rights of dentists across Europe.
Dr Peterson was denied health insurance because of her age and challenged the result in the ECJ. However, the court ruled that in cases where public health could be put at risk, this factor supersedes any discriminatory issues.
As a result, a mandatory retirement age for both public and private dentists could soon be introduced.
Elsewhere, a dentist in Inverness recently received a national award for outstanding achievement in the Member of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons’ examinations from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
Andrew Young BDS received the TC White prize after seeing off competition from 130 other hopefuls.
Mr Young commented: “I am very flattered to receive such an accolade and to have my efforts recognised in this way.”
