People who want to have a set of perfect teeth need to begin their emergency dentistry treatment at home.
Disease prevention should be the primary focus of anyone looking to take care of their teeth, according to dental hygienist Sandy Lawlor.
The member of the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association told the Vancouver Sun that preventative care will save people money.
"If we can get people to take on the prevention message and practice good oral care at home, they are going to keep themselves healthier from a total health care perspective," Ms Lawlor explained.
She suggested that the key to preventing diseases and decay is to brush teeth twice a day and ideally floss them at the same time.
The importance of flossing was also recently highlighted by the Relands Daily Facts, which suggested that people who do not like wrapping floss around their fingers should try using floss holders or swords where the string is already strung on the holder.
