People who are concerned about getting emergency dentistry should change their toothbrush every three to four months to improve oral health, an expert claims.
Dentist Ruchi Nijjar Sahota has suggested people should purchase a new toothbrush on a regular basis to maintain healthy teeth and gums, MSN Health reports.
Dr Sahota also stressed the importance of brushing teeth in the correct manner to ensure good oral hygiene, particularly when using an electronic toothbush.
She said: "The electronic toothbrush moves on its own, so you should try to be gentle with it to allow the bristles to work."
Snacking, which has become a regularity among people with a busy lifestyle, is a primary cause of unhealthy teeth and gums.
Dr Sahota also recommends that people carry a small portable toothbrush with them if they do not have time to brush straight after a meal.
Meanwhile, people should also partake in regular teeth flossing to ensure a healthy smile.
The Daily Mirror has recently reported that people with unhealthy gums are more likely to suffer from a stroke.
