composite veneers

Composite veneers, also known as direct resin veneers, can stain over time, especially if they are not properly cared for. The staining can be caused by various factors, such as consuming staining foods and drinks (such as coffee, tea, and red wine), poor oral hygiene, and smoking. Porcelain/ceramic veneers generally stain less than composite veneers but porcelain veneers require tooth reduction and generally cost 2-3 times more than composite veneers.

Can Composite veneers stains be removed?

Composite veneers can be polished to remove surface stains, just like natural teeth can be polished. A professional dental cleaning will remove the superficial stains, but it will not change the color of composite veneers, as the color is determined during the initial manufacturing process. Also, it is important to note that maintaining good oral hygiene and avoiding or limiting consumption of staining agents (such as coffee, tea, and red wine) can help prevent staining and prolong the life of your veneers.

Can you whiten composite veneers?

No, composite veneers cannot be whitened in the same way that natural teeth can be whitened with teeth whitening products. If a composite veneer becomes discolored or stained, it will need to be either polished or replaced by a cosmetic dentist.

How you I maintain my composite veneers?

At Pearl dental clinic for our composite veneer patients, we recommend regular dental checkups to keep composite veneers looking their best, by detecting any potential problems and addressing them in a timely manner. We recommend that our veneer patients come back to see our cosmetic dentists once a year to have their composite veneers polished up back to their previous shine. This repolishing visit usually takes approximately 30-45 minutes to complete. You can see examples of composite veneers before & after photos of cases carried out at Pearl dental clinic.

Composite veneers just like natural teeth, require patients to brush and floss their teeth twice a day as part of a good maintenance regime. Where applicable, wearing a nightguard at night will increase the longevity of your composite veneers.
