Dental IV Sedation

Dental IV sedation is a great way of undergoing dental treatment without the fear that some people associate with it.

With this in mind, here at Pearl, we have IV sedation available in all our appointments if a patient wishes to have it. This is even the case in unscheduled emergency consultations and walk-in appointments. Just ask our reception team when entering the clinic for an unscheduled appointment or mention during the booking process that you would like sedation. We are here to help ensure you have a relaxing and successful treatment.

Dental IV Sedation

IV sedation is a combination of sedative medications that are administered directly into the bloodstream. Because of this, they are fast acting and extremely effective. Many patients have sedative for all their dental treatment, whereas others prefer it as a one-off for more intensive procedures. Dental sedation would never be used unless we receive full written consent from the patient. The IV needle is most often inserted into the back of the hand. The area will be coated with a numbing cream before insertion for ultimate comfort. Once the sedation is administered patients will feel deeply relaxed. Furthermore, they are unlikely to remember any of the treatment afterward.

Alternative Options

There are also other sedative options available in dentistry. These are as follows:

1. Oral Sedation – A sedation tablet that is taken 30-60 minutes before dental treatment.
2. Inhalation Sedation – A sedation gas that is administered through a face mask.
3. Dental Hypnosis – Although this is not a sedative it can be an effective way of allowing a patient to access treatment without the fear or anxiety that would normally occur.
