What is root canal work?

When the tooth becomes infected from the inside, a root canal treatment is needed. This procedure involves drilling into the tooth and removing the infection from the root canals. Following this, the tooth is very carefully cleaned and then disinfected. This is to attempt to prevent any further infection from returning. Once the dentist is happy the tooth will be filled to seal it. Sometimes this will be enough to stabilise the tooth. If not, a crown may be attached to strengthen and protect the tooth further. A crown will only be added once the dentist is satisfied that the infection is eradicated.
