British dentist Tariq Idris has told of the dangers of seeking dental treatment abroad, as what may appear cheaper could end up costing you more.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Dr Idris explained that people go to foreign countries for procedures such as dental implants as the cost of treatment is lower than the UK, however many return with complications.
The expert said that although costs initially appear cheaper, they often fail to include all the extra aspects to the procedure and when combined with the expense of booking a flight, accommodation and time off work, it can in fact work out more expensive.
He said: “Ironically, about half the patients I have seen who have had procedures abroad would have paid the same, or even less, in the UK.”
Tooth implants could be a more comfortable and cost-effective option than dentures, the British Dental Health Foundation suggests, as false teeth can move around while eating and speaking and implant alternatives avoid this.
