Almost 80,000 people in Scotland do not have an emergency dentistry surgery they can go to.
Up to 80,000 Scots could be without emergency dentistry services at present, new figures from NHS Highland have revealed.
A spokesperson for the British Dental Association noted that in total, 81.7 per cent of Scottish adults and 63 per cent of children in the country are currently on the books of NHS dentists.
Mary Scanlon MSP, Conservative shadow cabinet secretary for health & wellbeing, said: “The crisis in dentistry brings shame on Labour, the Liberal Democrats and the SNP. Since 2000, the situation has got worse for children and for adults.”
Elsewhere, Roddy Kemp, a strategic partner at Clarity SMC, recently told Dentistry.co.uk that he believes the end of the economic downturn will herald a rise in the number of people visiting their dentists.
He claimed as long as surgeries offer value for money and a good level of service, then patients will continue to use their services.
