What happens with a broken veneer?
The course of action taken to fix a broken veneer will depend on the age, veneer type, and its condition. Often it is best to see a dentist as soon as a crack line appears in your veneer.
Following a veneer fracture, we usually recommend that the damaged veneer be replaced. Some fractured veneer cases may be repairable with an immediate composite bonding repair or re-cementing the fractured veneer back on and polishing it.
If the remaining veneer is still attached to the tooth, it will have to be removed under local anaesthetic to make space for a new veneer. Digital scans of the tooth are taken and sent immediately to the dental laboratory. You are then provided with a temporary veneer whilst the dental laboratory produces a new porcelain/ceramic veneer. Occasionally, you may have to visit the dental laboratory so that the lab technicians there can match your new veneer to the shade of your current existing veneers and teeth.
