Dental enamel can sometimes be affected with white or yellow patches which can be a source of embarrassment when smiling. These tooth patches are usually superficial and located within the enamel and may have been present for many years. Dental Microabrasion can be used to treat these tooth patches.
No it’s not painful at all as dental enamel has no nerve supply. Microabrasion can be carried out with or without local anaesthesia depending on patient wishes. Once the procedure is completed, the tooth is covered with a fluoride paste or composite resin to ensure that the tooth does not become sensitive afterwards.
If tooth patches are deep and extend into dentine, enamel Microabrasion alone will not be sufficient. In such cases, composite bonding or porcelain veneers will also be necessary.
