Parents who want to minimise their risk of having to take their youngsters to an emergency dentist should be aware of some teeth-troubling habits.
According to the Canadian Dental Association (CDA), prevention starts with the basics – flossing, brushing and avoiding sugary sweets.
However, mums and dads should also stay away from ostensibly healthy foods that may actually contain smile-harming acids.
"Children’s teeth start off at a disadvantage because their enamel is thinner to begin with, making their teeth more susceptible to acid wear," explained Dr Jane Gillanders.
The CDA has teamed up with GlaxoSmithKline to support a national campaign aimed at educating parents on the subject of health teeth.
Those in the UK who want to know more may want to consult a professional and explore their options, as adults have a number of choices available these days thanks to advances in the cosmetic dentistry industry.
As well as tooth whitening, Invisalign braces are popular with many people who decide they want to fix their smile later in life.
