A dentist’s surgery in Wales has helped children from Chernobyl improve their oral health by carrying out a range of emergency dentistry procedures.
Brynteg Dental Surgery on Mansel Street in Carmarthen heeded the call of children from suffering the after-effects of the Chernobyl disaster.
Dentist Nelson Kernahan, who treated the children, said: "They cold-called us four years ago and asked if we could help. Other dentists were willing to do some children but we just thought, ‘wouldn’t it be easier if we just did the whole lot?’"
Ever since, children from Ukraine have made a yearly pilgrimage to the surgery where they receive free dental health treatments.
In other news, Dr Caron George, a dentist in Cardiff, recently ran a half marathon to help raise funds and awareness for the Mouth Cancer Foundation.
He hoped the physical exertion he put in helped highlight the work carried out by the charity and would make people more likely to get themselves checked for the disease in the future.
