A little boy in the US was left needing emergency dentistry after an incident in which it was claimed he had his teeth pulled out with pliers.
The unnamed three-year-old lives in Indiana and was recently taken to hospital needing treatment on his mouth by his grandfather.
Karl Anderson claims that the child's mother's partner Andrew Richards pulled several of his teeth out using a pair of pliers, as well as removing some of his toenails.
He is now in police custody while the boy's mother Jessica Carder has been charged with aiding child battery and neglect.
Mr Anderson, who is currently applying for custody of his grandson, said he is recovering well after having emergency dentistry and other treatments.
"It's kind of hard to understand him talking because he's got all them teeth missing on the top. But he's doing really good," he added.
In August 2010, a 21-month-old child had to have emergency dentistry after falling from a two-storey window in California.
Authorities were surprised to find he only had a chipped tooth, cuts and bruises, despite the height.
