People who want to avoid emergency dentistry have been told that proper brushing and flossing is the only way to do so.
Writing in the Redlands Daily Facts in response to a reader query about the necessity of flossing, Mimi Barre said it is vital for all the teeth a person intends to keep.
She pointed out that otherwise, plaque and tartar can lead to gum disease, tooth loss and even more serious problems such as heart attacks.
"Only proper brushing and flossing can get rid of that goop," Ms Barre commented.
For those who struggle with traditional floss, she recommended trying the sort that comes on a small plastic holder, but added that different people will prefer other types like flat ribbon floss.
"Slide down the side of each tooth, under the gum line to loosen debris," the expert instructed.
This comes after Amanda Geffner of the Daily Weston said last month that she has been converted to floss after trying it and being amazed by the results.
