A dentist from Northwich completed the Bupa Great Manchester Run last weekend, to raise hundreds of pounds for charity. Paul Diss, who is principle dentist at Witton Street Dental Practice, ran the 10km course on Sunday and finished in 55minutes, accompanied by his wife Katie, to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

With sponsorship from friends and patients, Paul ran the race alongside an estimated 40,000 entrants and managed to raise over £900 for his cause. Paul told Northwich Guardian ‘Katie and I had a great day and raising more than £900 for such an important charity as the British Heart Foundation is a great achievement.’ He also spoke of his gratitude to the people that spurred him on, saying ‘I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who sponsored and supported us.’

Paul explained that he was running for the Foundation because it means a lot to him after losing his mother Wendy to heart disease recently; he commented that this was ‘a catalyst’ behind his decision to participate in the race. The money should hopefully make a difference to people who have been diagnosed with the condition and help with support for families. Paul added that ‘heart disease and heart conditions can affect many different people of all ages and backgrounds, which is why it’s so important to raise funds for vital research.’
