Central Midland’s NHS pledge a £6.3 million annual investment to improve dental services and access to dental care. The region of Leicestershire and Rutland are set to receive the sum of money in the hope that dental care can be improved. The plans for the money will allow for five new dental practices across the region and will facilitate existing practices to offer later opening hours. There are also plans to provide more specialist care for patients with special needs. The Head of Primary Care for the region, Di Pegg welcomes the proposed changes. “That’s great news for people right across the area, who from December will find it much easier to benefit from routine, urgent and out-of-hours NHS dental care closer to where they live.”
Over the course of ten years, this amounts to a staggering £63 million. It is unsure, at this point, whether the funding will continue after the ten-year contract expires. The planned investment is set to take effect from 1st December 2017. Potentially this could help thousands of people receive better access to the dental care they need.
