The dental expert responsible for a new toothpaste has said the product offers a level of dental protection that has never been seen before.
Speaking to the Daily Express, Dr Robert Gerlach said the Oral-B Pro-Expert paste keeps teeth free of plaque and prevents gum disease, suggesting it could help people avoid the need for emergency dentistry.
Although it will be one of the most expensive toothpastes on the market, the product has been shown to remove 96 per cent of surface stains within two weeks of brushing.
Dr Gerlach described it as "the next chapter of toothpaste technology".
He added: "It is unprecedented in what it does and it will improve oral hygiene in a short space of time."
According to guidelines from the British Dental Association (BDA), people should brush their teeth twice a day using a fluoride toothpaste.
The BDA recommends using small circular movements when brushing, as well as cleaning along the gum line in addition to the teeth themselves.
