Just as it is with adults, a good oral hygiene routine is essential for keeping children’s teeth clean and healthy. It can feel daunting as a parent knowing how to ensure your child’s teeth are well looked after. However, by following a few simple steps you can help to keep dental decay and other issues at bay. In addition to this, here at Pearl, we have a registered specialist Paediatric Dentist to help you look after your child’s teeth.
Looking After Your Child’s Teeth
Looking after your child’s teeth is crucial to their long term oral health. It is important to ensure that your child’s teeth are brushed twice a day. Once before bedtime and another time during the day. Varying levels of fluoride are to be used depending on the age of your child. Therefore, it is important to check the packaging of children’s toothpaste to ensure that it is appropriate for the age group. Only use a tiny amount of toothpaste (especially in babies and toddlers) as they are prone to swallowing it. A rice size amount or a smear is enough for children under three. Children over three can use a pea-sized amount, but again, this should not be swallowed.
Also, parents should always ensure that children are supervised and supported when brushing. It can be beneficial for parents to brush their teeth at the same time so that children can learn from seeing as well as doing. In addition to brushing, you can help protect your child’s teeth from decay by limiting sugary drinks and snacks.

If you would like to register your child as a new patient or book a children’s dental check-up appointment then you can call the clinic. You can also make use of our online booking system, or email us for an appointment. In addition to this, emergency dental issues do not always need an appointment. Patients can simply walk straight in for prompt and effective service. Children must be accompanied by an adult throughout any dental appointment. We look forward to seeing you very soon, here at Pearl Dental Clinic.
