People who are put off cosmetic dentistry procedures because of the drill may be interested to hear about a new laser.

In an article for the Daily Mail, it was noted the Waterlase MD Turbo could be used for a number of treatments.

As well as being proven to kill 99.7 per cent of bacteria in infected teeth, the technology can also trim gums and cure sensitivity in the mouth, the newspaper added.

Patients who require dental implants or root-canal procedures are likely to benefit from the laser, the publication pointed out.

Explaining the technology, it said: "Lasers work by emitting high-speed pulsed light and different frequency lasers will have different effects – some will burn through tissues, for example, while others will kill bacteria."

In other news that may interest cosmetic dentists, Astra Tech has teamed up with Dental Wings.

The former company – a dental implant maker – said the partnership would reduce the time and money needed to create abutments. ADNFCR-2621-ID-19393698-ADNFCR
