The benefits of choosing clear braces were highlighted recently by pop star Katy Perry.
At the Teen Choice Awards this week, the California Gurls singer got through a dazzling array of costumes, including one that was based on her schooldays and saw her take to the stage looking deliberately geeky.
She had chosen a denim jumpsuit, glasses stuck together with tape and huge braces held on with a headpiece for her transformation, which had the audience and the cast of Glee in stitches.
It is hard to imagine the glamorous Perry as geeky, so her next costume – a cheerleader – was a little more believable.
Of course, the days of cumbersome braces are long gone and many famous faces wear them without the general public realising.
Myleene Klass revealed on This Morning recently that she wears invisible braces to make her smile look perfect for her appearances on television.
