A dental institute has offered some information on dental implants that may prove useful to people who have lost teeth.
Speaking to WWLP 22 News, a representative from Baystate Dental explained they are "natural, non-removable" and "close to what Mother Nature" originally provided.
The implant is a hollow cylinder of titanium that is fitted into the jaw bone wherever a tooth is needed.
"That implant, that hollow titanium tube allows the biologic process of bone to grow in and anchor it just like a root of a tooth," the source commented.
Once it is bedded in, a mock tooth can be placed on top by screwing, cementing or snapping.
Last month, Dr Amarik Singh, who has a practice in Chicago and has fitted 6,000 patients with them, told Health News people should not be put off dental implants because they are afraid of them being expensive or painful, because this is not the case.
