A fan of rockers Guns N’ Roses is suing the bands lead singer Axl Rose after his teeth were knocked out during a concert when the microphone was thrown into the audience. Darren Write was left with damaged teeth after the gig in Perth, Australia this weekend, and he has now started legal proceedings to have his dental work paid for – which he estimates will be around $5,000.
The 39-year-old told The West Australian that he couldn’t see what was happening on stage as the bright lights blinded him, then he felt a sudden impact to his mouth, he explains; ‘I thought I had been punched. I was quite stunned and it took a few seconds to realise what was going on. I could feel bits of teeth in my mouth. Then someone is climbing through my legs to grab the microphone.’
Although Darren is suing the Guns N’ Roses frontman, he maintains that it was an accident, saying ‘I don’t think he intended to do it, but it came at me at a fairly flat and hard trajectory. Those cordless microphones are not light. I’m surprised it didn’t do more damage. At the very least I want someone to pay to get my teeth fixed.’
Tour promoter Andrew McManus apologised to Darren and offered him a signed microphone to make up for the accident, however, the Australian father-of-four is determined to get some money to pay for his expensive dental work, telling the paper that ‘I’m on a single income, doing it hard in Perth. In reality I don’t think the microphone is going to fix my teeth or pay for the dentist.’
