A Canadian dentist who was performing unecessary emergency dentistry on patients has been prosecuted.
Winnipeg-based dentist Dr Donald J Bachinsky pleaded guilty to three charges of professional misconduct following an investigation, CBC News reports.
Health Canada's First Nations and Inuit Health Branch looked into the case after they noted statistical anomolies in Dr Bachinsky's records for aboriginal patients.
The analysis led to claims the dental professional had carried out a number of fillings on patients' teeth when they were not required.
Dr Bachinsky was fined C$24,000 (£15,237) for performing unecessary dental treatment on a number of people.
He will be subject to retraining and monitoring if he chooses to start his dental practice again following a six-month ban.
Dental fillings should only be given to people with chipped, decayed teeth that may have been affected by gum disease, Bupa Healthcare reports.
