A Stockport café owner has been awarded £10,000 after his dental work failed; Nasser Homayoun-Fekri spent thousands of pounds getting a brand new ‘Hollywood smile’ but was disappointed by the work that was carried out at Manor Dental Practice in Sale. The treatment included a bridge to replace missing teeth and several veneers; however, Nasser found that he had to return to Dr Anhali Shahi no less than eight times to get the veneers replaced and more repair work done.

Mr Homayoun-Fekri said that he was first fitted with the bridge but had to get another one in under a month, then six of his teeth were prepared for veneers; he added that this was ‘when all the problems started.’ He was told that the veneers would last for twenty years, but they came loose within a couple of weeks and he started to suffer some discomfort. He said ‘I struggled to eat and was afraid to open my mouth to speak – I was living in pain. It has caused me so many problems and has been a very upsetting period. I felt I had been treated unprofessionally.’

After seeking a second opinion, Nasser was told that he should not have been fitted with veneers, so he decided to sue for damages. An out-of-court settlement was reached at £10,000, although Dr Shahi denied that the level of service provided was poor. Heather Williams, of the Dental Law Partnership who represented Nasser, said that he ‘was offered an extremely poor treatment plan that didn’t take into account his oral health. He faced spending thousands [of pounds] to correct the problems.’
