Making sure brushing is carried out properly will help to prevent emergency dentistry in the long run.
This is according to Nancyann Rella, writing for NewsDay, who said it is never too early to begin a proper oral healthcare regime, as gum disease can spring up in those aged as young as six.
She cited advice from the Mayo Clinic to explain how to brush properly and effectively.
"Brush as if your teeth depended on it," the article stated, recommending a soft toothbrush that will not damage the gums.
Using short backwards and forwards strokes followed by up and down movements will ensure all surfaces of the teeth are cleaned.
Flossing was also recommended to go with a regular brushing regime in order to keep teeth in tip-top condition.
Reader's Digest recently said that flossing is essential, as not only can it protect the teeth from plaque but it could get rid of the bacteria that cause chronic, body-wide inflammation.
