The Health Awards are being dedicated to doctors, nurses, midwives, dentists, and many other healthcare employees in the Yorkshire Area, and the Evening Post wants to hear about medical professionals who have gone above and beyond to give patients the best service possible. Plenty of nominations have already been received, most notably for a dentist who helped a nervous patient through a difficult root canal filling, and another whose ‘cheerful and considerate’ disposition made treatment much easier to cope with.
The paper is also looking for more nominations for the Dentist of the Year Award to reward an individual surgeon who might have gone the extra mile to help patients get the most out of their dental treatment – it doesn’t matter if they are employed privately or by the NHS. This category is sponsored by the Leeds Dental Institute, which is jointly run by the University of Leeds and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Director of student education, Prof Paul Brunton said that the organisations were pleased to be a part of the celebrations; ‘As the only dental school in the UK to train the dental team as a whole under one roof, we instil among our students and alumni the principles of upholding the highest standards of dental practice and professionalism, while our postgraduate degree programmes provide opportunities to enhance and deepen professional, clinical and academic knowledge.
The nominations will be reduced to a shortlist of three, and then the winners will be announced on October 29th.
