A tooth crown is needed when a natural tooth structure is compromised.

A tooth can become compromised due to infection, trauma, damage, cavities, or extensive dental work. A dental crown fits over the remaining tooth to encapsulate it. Often, a tooth that has been root canal treated is crowned to protect it from further infection and ensure that the structure is strengthened.

How is a crown fitted?

• First of all, the tooth is assessed and x-rayed to ensure the correct treatment is administered.
• The tooth will then be prepared and fitted with a temporary crown. Scans for the permanent crown will be sent to the laboratory. This process is much faster than most other clinics as we have iTero digital scanning. This eliminates the need for moulds and impressions.
• Once the specially manufactured crown is returned to the clinic it is fitted onto the required tooth.
