It’s hard to make puppies any cuter, but one animal hospital in Spring Lake, Michigan has found a way – by giving them orthodontic braces. A picture of six-month-old golden retriever Wesley smiling for the camera and showing off his new train tracks has taken the web by storm, making the puppy an internet celebrity.
The Harborfront Hospital for Animals shared the pictures on their Facebook page and explained that Wesley was unable to close his mouth properly because of crooked teeth so veterinarian Jim Moore, father of Wesley’s owner Molly, suggested that braces could be the answer. The Facebook post said that people are surprised to hear that Dr Moore is a ‘doggie dentist’ and ‘they immediately say things like ‘What? Does he put braces on dogs, too? The answer is… yes. Yes, he does.’
Due to malocclusions with this teeth, Wesley was unable to eat properly and his owner Molly explained to Buzzfeed that he ‘wasn’t playing with his toys and he was losing weight’; it was then that she decided something had to be done to help her dog ‘be pain free and live a happy puppy life.’ Luckily for Wesley he was in the right family to get the best treatment, as Dr Moore specialises in dog dentistry. The train tracks don’t seem to bother the pup and Molly says he is now ‘a happy little guy’.
